Put a Civitas Terminal in SL
Get the Terminal script for your community, put it in an object in SL, and have it hand out sign-in codes, group invitations and your forms.
You need permission to manage in-world objects (objects.manage). Having a Terminal invite people to a group also needs permission to invite people to groups (groups.invite), and showing forms on it needs permission to manage forms (forms.manage).
A Terminal is an object of yours in SL with the Civitas Terminal script in it. Anyone who touches it gets a one-time code for signing in to Civitas, and an invitation to one of your SL groups if you choose one. It can also offer your forms, such as a staff application, and give them the link to the one they choose.
Get the script
- Go to In-world objects and press Send me the script on the Terminal card.
- A Civitas bot offers you the script in SL, named for your community. Accept it.
- Drop it into an object you own. It starts working straight away.
The script is made for your community and for you. You can copy it into as many objects as you like, but not read it or give it away. Sending it doesn't count toward your community's daily limit.
Each object shows under Objects, with its region and owner. Click its name to see all about it. Its hover text shows your community's name and Touch for your sign-in code.
What happens when someone touches it
The Terminal tells them their code in local chat, where only they see it. They type it on the sign-in page within 10 minutes, or in Account settings to link another avatar to their account. Each person can get up to 10 codes in 10 minutes.
Invite people to a group
- On In-world objects, click the object's name under Objects.
- Under Group invites, choose the SL group and the Role people join in. Each pick saves as you make it.
- Press Close.
Everyone who touches it and isn't in the group gets an invitation from the bot as well as their code. Members, and people the group has banned, just get their code. Each invitation counts one message toward the bot's daily limit.
The list offers the roles the bot can give out. Roles linked to a Civitas role aren't offered, since everyone who touched the Terminal would get that role on the website too. If an invitation can't go out, the Terminal tells its owner in SL why.
To stop, click the object's name again and press Stop inviting. The Terminal still hands out codes.
Show forms on it
- Go to Forms and open the form.
- On Settings, turn on Show on Terminals. It saves straight away.
While the form is taking submissions, touching any of your Terminals opens a menu with Sign-in code and Forms. Forms lists the forms on your Terminals, and choosing one gives them its link in local chat, where only they see it. No bot sends anything, so it doesn't count toward your daily limit.
Terminals offer up to 12 forms, in title order. Forms only certain roles or teams complete aren't offered, and neither is the ban appeal form. When no form is on your Terminals, touching one gives the code straight away, as before. Terminals need the version 4 script or newer to show forms.
Keep it up to date
When a newer script is out, the object and its copy show Update available, the Terminal card counts the objects that need it, and the Terminal tells its owner in SL. Show Needs an update above the list to see them all. Get a new script and put it in the object instead of the old one.
Turn a Terminal off
- To turn off one object, click its name under Objects and press Disable…. The script's other objects carry on.
- To turn off a copy of the script and every object it's in, press Disable… beside it under Copies sent.
Civitas stops answering, so a disabled Terminal hands out no more codes or invitations. After disabling an object, put the script in a new object to have a Terminal there again. After disabling a copy, get a new one.
