Manage your SL group's roles
Give people group roles and take them away, and create, change and delete the group's roles, from the website.
Giving and taking away roles needs permission to assign group roles (groups.assign_roles). Changing the roles themselves needs permission to edit group roles (groups.edit_roles).
Each change goes to the bot, which makes it in SL. You can only do what your own avatar's abilities in the group allow, and the bot only what its roles allow.
Give someone a role
- Go to SL groups, open the group, and stay on Members.
- Press + after the person's roles and pick the role.
To take a role away, press the cross on it. The list offers only the roles the bot can give out and whose abilities you have yourself. Civitas never gives out the Owners role, and only the group's owners can change who is in it, in SL.

Change a role's name, title or description
- Go to the Roles tab. Under Names, titles and descriptions, press Edit beside the role.
- Change its Name, Title, Description, or Reveal members, which shows its members on the group's profile. Each change saves when you leave the box, and the bot makes it in SL.
- Press Close.
SL keeps a role's name and title to 20 bytes: about 20 letters, fewer with accents. The Everyone role can't be renamed, and only the group's owners can change the Owners role.
A role linked to a Civitas role takes its name from it, so rename it on the Roles page instead. See linking roles.
Create a role
- On the Roles tab, press Create a role.
- Fill in its Name, and its Title and Description if you like.
- Press Create the role.
It starts with no abilities. A group can have at most 10 roles, SL's limit.
Delete a role
Press Delete… beside the role and confirm with Delete role. Its members stay in the group.
You can't delete Everyone, Owners, a role the bot is in, or a role linked to a Civitas role. Delete a linked role on the Roles page, which deletes this one too, or unlink them there first.
Change what each role can do
Under Abilities on the Roles tab, tick the abilities each role should have. Each tick saves as you make it, and the bot makes it in SL. Owners always have every ability in SL, so their column can't change.
The bot needs Assign and Remove Abilities in Roles, and can only give or take away abilities it has itself. You need each ability you change, unless you own the community or the group.
