Put a Dispatch 911 in SL
Get the Dispatch 911 script, put it in an object anywhere in your roleplay community, and let anyone who touches it report an emergency to Dispatch from where the object stands.
You need permission to manage in-world objects (objects.manage), and the community needs Dispatch turned on. Anyone who is a member and has signed in to Civitas once can touch the object to report a call.
A Dispatch 911 is a script you put in an object, like a call box on a street corner or a phone in a police station. Anyone who touches it can report an emergency, and Dispatch gets a call that says where the object stands.
Put one out
- Go to In-world objects and press Send me the script on the Dispatch 911 card. One of Civitas's bots offers it to you in SL. The card shows while Dispatch is on for your community.
- Accept it, make an object where you want the call box, and put the script in it. Name the object for the place, such as Harbor Street 911: the call shows that name as its location.
- Once the script has started, it says Ready to you in local chat, and its hover text reads Touch to report an emergency.
You can put out as many as you like. Each object works only for the avatar it was sent to, so give the script to whoever owns the object it goes in.
What people do
Touching it opens a menu: Police, Fire, Medical, Other or Cancel. After they choose, a box asks what's happening. They type a few words, or - to send it without.
Dispatch then has a call for the person, with the nature they chose (a dispatcher can change it), what they typed, the object's name as its location and a link to the spot on SL's map. The object tells them the call's number, such as Dispatch has your call, C-12. Nothing is sent by a bot, so calls from a 911 object don't count toward any daily message limit.
The rules for reporting from the website apply here too:
- A member can report at most 3 calls an hour. Over that, the object tells them so.
- If your community has turned off calls from members on the Dispatch settings, or Dispatch is off, the object says so and makes no call.
- Someone who has never signed in to Civitas, or who isn't a member of your community, is told to (touch a Terminal for a sign-in code) and no call is made.
Keeping it up to date
When a newer script comes out, the In-world objects page marks the object Needs an update and the object tells its owner. Press Send me the script again and put the new one in the object in place of the old one. To stop an object taking calls, choose Disable on the page: Civitas stops answering it, and it says so to anyone who touches it.
