Add an SL group

Add one of your SL groups to your community and get the bot into it, so Civitas can manage the group for you.

You need permission to manage groups (groups.manage).

Civitas works in your SL groups through your community's bot. Once the bot is in a group, it reads the group's members and roles, and everyone in the group becomes a member of your community.

Before you start

Your community needs a bot first. If it has none, the SL groups page says so: choose one on the Bots page (see Choose your community's bot). The shared Civitas bot is enough to start.

A group can belong to one Civitas community only. If another community already manages it, Civitas says so when you add it.

Add the group

In Second Life, open your group's profile and use Copy SLurl. The group's UUID works too.
Go to SL groups. Under Add a group, paste it into Group UUID or link and press Add group.

The group's page opens and shows Waiting for the bot until the bot is in the group.

Invite the bot

In SL, open the group's profile, go to Roles, and make a role for Civitas, or use one you have. Give it the abilities the group's page lists under Abilities the bot needs.
Invite the bot the page names to the group, in that role.
Civitas accepts the invitation as soon as the bot gets it, then reads the group's roster.

In SL, make a role for Civitas with the abilities listed here, then invite CMTYB to the group in that role.

The group's joining fee has to be L$0 when you invite the bot: Civitas's bots never pay to join a group. If it isn't, the group's page says so. Set the fee to L$0 in SL, then invite the bot again.

If the bot is already in the group, press Check the bot at the top of the group's page instead.

Have the bot join an open group

If anyone can join the group for free, the group's page offers Have the bot join, and the bot joins without an invitation. It then has only the Everyone role's abilities: enough to read the roster, but not to manage members. Give it a role with the abilities it needs in SL afterwards.

Once the bot is in

The group shows Active, and its card on SL groups shows its members, roles and how people join. If the bot's roles are missing abilities, the card says so and the group's page lists them. See Give the bot the abilities it needs.

From then on the bot reads the roster once a day, and lists what people changed in SL for you to review. See Review changes made in SL.

If the bot leaves the group or is ejected from it in SL, the group shows Bot not in group. Invite the bot again for Civitas to manage it.

Remove a group

Open the group's page and go to Settings.
Press Remove this group from Civitas… and confirm with Remove group.

Civitas forgets the group, its roster and its changes, and the bot leaves the group in SL. People who were only in that group stop being members of your community.
