What the Civitas Relay is

Civitas's bots do its work in Second Life: inviting, ejecting, giving group roles, sending IMs. Your community can use one of three kinds of bot.

Three kinds of bot

• The shared Civitas bot. Free, and ready at once. It sends your community a small number of messages a day, and only reads group chat.
• Your own bot, hosted by Civitas. Online even when your computer isn't. You give Civitas its password on the Bots page; it's encrypted as soon as you enter it.
• Your own bot, on the Civitas Relay. The Relay is an app for your Windows computer that runs your bot there. Its password stays on your computer and is only ever sent to Second Life. The bot is online while the computer is on.

Why use your own bot

Linden Lab lets each bot operator send 5,000 messages a day, across all their bots. With your own bot, you're its operator, so your community's messages count toward your own 5,000 instead of the shared bot's small share. The limit is shared by all your bots in all your communities. Your own bot also posts into SL group chat, which chat sync needs to pass Discord messages into SL. See Pass chat between SL and Discord.

Once your own bot joins your community, Civitas stops using the shared bot for it, so messages don't go out from two bots.

What you need

• A Windows 10 or 11 computer. The bot runs while it's on.
• An SL account for the bot, registered with Linden Lab as a scripted agent.
• To be the community's owner. Only the owner can download and pair the Relay.
• A Relay subscription. The Relay is free for now. Once billing opens, it will need a Relay subscription.

Setting it up

1. Install the Civitas Relay on your computer.
2. Pair it with your community with a code from the Bots page.
3. Add your bot in the Relay, then invite it into your SL groups.

Who supports it

Civitas makes the Relay, and Civitas supports it. This software is not provided or supported by Linden Lab, the makers of Second Life. Get help at cmty.app/help.
