Install the Civitas Relay

The Civitas Relay runs on Windows 10 or 11. It installs just for you, so you don't need to be an administrator.

Download it

1. Go to Bots in your community's navigation.
2. Under On your computer, with the Civitas Relay, press Download for Windows. The version and size are shown underneath, with a link back to this guide.
3. Your browser saves CivitasRelaySetup.exe.

If Download for Windows isn't there, check that you're the community's owner. If the card says the community doesn't have an active Relay subscription, renew it first.

Get past the Windows warning

Civitas doesn't pay for code signing, so the first time you run CivitasRelaySetup.exe, Windows may say it protected your PC from an app it doesn't know.

1. Choose More info.
2. Choose Run anyway.

Only do this for a file you downloaded from your community's Bots page at cmty.app. Once it's installed, the Relay installs an update only if Civitas signed it.

Install it

The installer puts the Relay on your computer, adds it to the Start menu and the desktop, and opens its panel at Pair with your community. From then on it starts when you sign in to Windows. Next, pair it with your community.

Where it runs

The Relay sits in the system tray, by the clock. Click its icon to open its panel in the corner of the screen, or right-click it and choose Open Civitas Relay. The panel hides when you click elsewhere, press Esc or press its X, and your bots keep running. While you're pairing or adding a bot, it stays open so you can copy a code or password from another window. To stop your bots, right-click the icon and choose Quit.

Opening the Relay from the Start menu while it's in the tray brings up its panel, rather than starting a second copy.
