Warn someone
Give a warning on a moderation case, tell the person why, and choose when repeated warnings suggest a ban.
You need permission to manage cases (moderation.manage) to warn. Setting the warning rule needs permission to ban (moderation.ban).
A warning goes on a case, with its reason. It's on the record for your moderators, and the person can see it on their Your membership page.
Give a warning
- Open the case on Moderation. Open one first if there isn't one: see Open and work a moderation case.
- Press Warn.
- Type the Reason: what they did.
- Leave Tell them ticked to let them know.
- Press Warn.
With Tell them, they get a notification with the warning and its reason: on Civitas if they have an account, on Discord if they chose that, and by IM from your community's bot unless they turned that off. The IM counts toward your daily messages. The case says whether they were told.
The warning rule
The warning rule suggests a ban when someone has had a number of warnings, on any of their cases, within a number of days. It starts at 3 warnings in 30 days. It's only a suggestion: nobody is banned unless a moderator bans them.
- On Moderation, press Warning rule.
- Turn Suggest a ban after repeated warnings on or off.
- Set Warnings (2 to 20) and Within (days) (1 to 365).
Changes save as you make them. When someone reaches the rule, their open case shows Ban suggested and a note at the top saying how many warnings they've had.
Do more when someone reaches it
Under When someone reaches it, also, you can add things to happen at the warning that reaches the rule, like giving a role or sending them an IM. They run once, at that warning. The warning on the case then lists what the rule did and whether each part worked.
