Mute someone
Mute someone on a moderation case, in your SL group chats, on your Discord server or both, for a set time or until it's lifted.
You need permission to manage cases (moderation.manage) and to mute people in chat (chat.moderate).
A mute stops someone writing for a while without banning them. It goes on a case, with its reason.
Mute someone
- Open the case on Moderation. Open one first if there isn't one: see Open and work a moderation case.
- Press Mute.
- Type the Reason: what they did.
- Under Where, tick SL group chats, Discord, or both.
- Choose How long: 1 hour, 1 day, 7 days or 28 days, or Until it's lifted.
- Leave Tell them ticked to let them know.
- Press Mute.
What a mute does
- SL group chats: the bot mutes them in your community's SL group chats, and nothing they write there is passed on to Discord.
- Discord: Civitas times out the Discord accounts linked to them in Civitas on your community's Discord server. Discord's timeouts last at most 28 days, so a mute that includes Discord can't be Until it's lifted.
- Telling them: with Tell them, they get a notification saying where they're muted, until when, and why: on Civitas, on Discord if they chose that, and by IM from your community's bot unless they turned that off. The IM counts toward your daily messages.
Someone can have one mute at a time in your community, and the community's owner can't be muted. A case must be open to mute from it. A mute in the SL group chats also shows on the Chat page, under Muted.
Lift a mute
On the case, press Lift the mute under the mute and give a reason. They can write again straight away, and their Discord timeout ends. A mute with an end ends by itself.
