Link a role to SL and Discord
Link a Civitas role to an SL group role and a Discord role, or import the roles you already have, so giving the role once gives it everywhere.
You need permission to manage roles (roles.manage) and members (members.manage). For SL group roles you also need to see SL groups (groups.view).
A linked role lives in three places at once: in Civitas, in one of your SL groups and on your Discord server. Three rules keep them together:
- Civitas decides. Giving or taking a linked role on Civitas does the same in SL and on Discord.
- Names match. Linking renames the SL and Discord roles to the Civitas role's name, and renaming the role on Civitas renames them too. SL allows up to 20 letters.
- Changes made by hand wait. If someone changes a linked role in the SL viewer or in Discord, the change is listed on the group's Changes in SL tab or the Discord page until someone makes it official or undoes it. See Review changes made in SL.
Import the roles you already have
If your SL group or Discord server already has the roles you want, import them.
- Go to Roles and press Import from SL or Import from Discord.
- If you have more than one group or server, choose it.
- Tick the roles to import. Each shows how many people hold it now.
- Press Import roles.
Each role you pick becomes a Civitas role with the same name, linked to it and held by whoever has it now. On Discord, that's the people who have it and have linked their Discord account. The new roles have no permissions; add them afterwards, as in Create and change roles.
Some roles can't be imported: an SL group's Everyone and Owners roles, and Discord roles above Civitas's own role on your server or managed by another app. To free a Discord role, drag Civitas's role above it in Discord's Server Settings, Roles.
Link a role you've made
- On Roles, open the role.
- Under Linked roles, choose a role in SL group role or Discord role.
- Read the note under it: it says what the role will be renamed to and who gets it.
- Press Link.
You can also pick the roles while you create a role; Create role then links them too. The bot gives the SL role to the role's holders who are in the group, and anyone else holding it in SL is listed on the group's Changes in SL tab. On Discord, Civitas gives the role to holders who have linked their Discord account and are on your server.
A role links to one SL group role and one Discord role, and each SL or Discord role links to one Civitas role.
Who doesn't have it yet
The Linked to column on the Roles page says how many holders are waiting, such as "2 not in the group yet". Open the role to see who. They get the SL role when they join the group, and the Discord role once they link their Discord account in Account settings and join the server.
Unlink a role
Open the role and press Unlink beside the linked role. Both roles stay, with the people who hold them, and stop following each other.
