Ban someone

A ban goes on a case, with its reason. It can reach your estates, your SL groups and your Discord server, it can end by itself, and the banned person can appeal it.

Ban someone

1. Open the case on Moderation. Open one first if there isn't one: see Open and work a moderation case.
2. Press Ban.
3. Type the Reason. They see it when they appeal, so keep it to what they did.
4. Leave Tell them ticked to let them know.
5. Choose How long: Until it's lifted, 1 day, 7 days, 30 days, 90 days or 1 year.
6. If your community has estates (see Add your estates and regions), Also ban from the community's estates is ticked; untick it to leave them out. Tick Return their objects on the estates to send back what they left there.
7. Tick the groups under Also ban from these SL groups, and Also ban them on Discord if you want those too.
8. Press Ban.

What a ban does

• Estates: the bot adds them to the ban list of every estate your community has added where they aren't banned yet, which sends them out of its regions, and returns their objects there if you asked. The reason shows on each estate's ban list with the case's number.
• SL groups: the bot adds them to each group's ban list you ticked, and ejects them if they're in it. SL doesn't show a reason in-world, so the reason lives on the case. When a group's list is full (SL holds 500), Civitas keeps the ban itself and ejects them whenever they join again. See When SL's ban list is full.
• Discord: Civitas bans the Discord accounts linked to them in Civitas from your community's Discord server. If they haven't linked one, the case says so.
• Telling them: with Tell them, they get a notification with the reason, when the ban ends and where to appeal: on Civitas, on Discord if they chose that, and by IM from your community's bot unless they turned that off. The IM counts toward your daily messages.

The case lists the ban with where it applies and whether each part has happened yet.

Rules

• Someone can have one ban at a time in your community. Lift it to ban them again.
• The community's owner can't be banned.
• A case must be open to ban from it. Closing a case later doesn't lift its bans.

Lift a ban

On the case, press Lift the ban under the ban and give a reason. The ban ends now, and the bot takes them off the SL groups' ban lists, and off the ban lists of the estates this ban put them on. A ban someone placed on an estate before stays. A Discord ban is lifted with it.

A ban with an end date ends by itself: Civitas checks every few minutes and takes them off the ban lists then. Lifting a ban on an appeal works the same way; see Appeal a ban, or decide an appeal.
