Appeal a ban, or decide an appeal

Every community has a Ban appeal form, and every ban can be appealed on it. Its address is the community's web address with /appeal on the end, like cmty.app/harbor-point/appeal, which opens the form.

Appeal your ban

1. Open the community's public page on cmty.app and press Appeal the ban at the bottom of the page. The notification about your ban links there too.
2. Sign in with the account your banned avatar belongs to. The form shows only bans on your own avatars.
3. Read the ban: Since, Until, the SL groups it covers and the Reason.
4. Answer Why should the ban be lifted?, and any other questions the community added.
5. Press Send. The form gives you a reference for your appeal.

Your appeal is about the newest ban on the avatar you send it as. The moderators' decision and their reason show on the form under Your appeals, and with what you sent (See what you sent). If they choose to tell you, you also get a notification.

If the form says none of your avatars is banned, your banned avatar may not be linked to your account yet. Link it in Account settings first; see Add another avatar to your account.

How many times you can appeal

You can have one appeal waiting at a time. If the moderators keep the ban, you can appeal again 30 days later; the form shows the date. A ban that has ended has nothing to appeal.

Decide an appeal

When someone appeals, everyone who can ban in the community gets a notification. The appeal shows under Appeals waiting on the Moderation page, on the ban's case, and with the submissions on Forms. Only people who can ban see appeals; the form's reviewer setting doesn't apply. Appeals are part of Moderation, so they work even if your community hasn't turned Forms on.

1. Open the appeal: from the notification, Appeals waiting, or Decide on submission on the case.
2. Read what they sent, and press Lift the ban or Keep the ban.
3. Type the Reason. They see it on the form, and it's recorded on the ban's case.
4. Leave Tell them checked to send them a notification with your decision and reason.
5. Press Lift the ban or Keep the ban again to confirm.

Lifting the ban accepts the appeal and ends the ban now, as Lift the ban does on the ban itself: the bot takes them off the SL groups' ban lists. Keeping it declines the appeal and lets them appeal again in 30 days, and the notification tells them when.

Change the ban appeal form

People who can manage forms find it on Forms as Ban appeal. You can rename it, change its description and the message after sending, add your own questions after Why should the ban be lifted?, lay them out and add logic, and add actions that run when an appeal is decided.

It's built in, so it can't be deleted, archived or closed, made anonymous, opened to anyone but people banned from your community, or given reviewer roles. Its first question is always Why should the ban be lifted?, because that answer is the appeal recorded on the case.

Appeals sent before the Ban appeal form existed are on it too, as its submissions, with their decisions.
