Send a notice

A notice goes to your community's SL groups as a group notice, or to the people holding certain roles or on certain teams as an IM each. It can also go to Discord channels and your public page. What it costs against your bots' daily messages shows before it goes.

Write a notice

1. Go to Notices and press New notice. It starts as a draft, and changes save as you write.
2. In To, choose Send as:
   • SL group notices: check the groups. Each gets one group notice, which counts once for each member.
   • IMs to roles and teams: check the Roles and Teams. Each person gets one IM from your community's bot, even if they're in more than one.
3. Type the Subject and the Message. They're plain text, and links stay clickable in SL. The counts under them show how much SL allows. Accented letters and emoji take more than one byte.

A group can't be checked if none of your bots is in it, or the bot lacks the Send Notices ability there. The group says why.

Check what it costs

What it costs says about how many messages the notice uses, and how many your bots have sent of today's limit. If your bots can't send that many, it says why, and the notice can't go to SL. The count starts again at midnight SLT. The shared Civitas bot sends only a small number of messages for you, so a big group needs your own bot. See Understand the daily message limit.

Attach an item

A group notice can carry one item from SL, like a landmark or a notecard.

1. In SL, give the item to your community's bot. The Attachment panel says which bot. The bot keeps items only from people who can send notices, whose avatar is linked to their Civitas account.
2. The item appears in Attachment. Press Attach.

The bot must be able to copy and transfer the item. If the groups' notices go from different bots, give the item to each bot, or send one notice for each. Take off takes it off the notice. The delete button beside an item deletes it from the bot's inventory in SL, and drafts lose it. IMs can't carry items.

Add copies

In Copies:

• Show on the public page puts the notice under Recent notices on your public page, once Show recent notices is on there. It shows the last 5.
• Check up to 10 Discord channels. In an announcement channel, it's published to servers following the channel too. Connect your server on the Discord page first.

Copies cost no SL messages. A notice can go to Discord channels only, without SL.

Send it now or later

In When, leave Send on When I press Send to send it now.

To send it later, choose At a time, then the Day and Time. To repeat it, choose Repeats: Daily, Weekly or Monthly, and Every. In Times, say how many times it goes, counting the first. Leave it empty to keep repeating.

Then press Send or Schedule. Sending now asks you first, with how many people it reaches, and can't be taken back.

A scheduled notice waits under Scheduled. You can still change it. Back to drafts stops it. When its time comes, Civitas checks that you can still send notices. If you can't, it goes back to the drafts and you're told. If SL can't take it then, like when there aren't enough messages left, its Discord and public page copies still go and you're told why. Each time a repeating notice goes, a copy shows under Sent.

See how it went

The Notices page has Sent, Scheduled and Drafts tabs. Sent lists each notice with the messages it used and how it went: Sent, Sending, Failed, or failed for some.

Open a sent notice to see each group's result, or for IMs how many people it reached and who it didn't reach and why. On Discord shows each channel's copy. A sent notice can't be changed or deleted.

Delete draft deletes a draft for good.

Notices posted in SL

When someone posts a notice to one of your groups in the viewer, your community's bot passes it on and it shows under Sent, marked Posted in SL. This costs no messages.

In Notices posted in SL, choose a Discord channel in Post on Discord in to post each group's notices there too. Your bot says whether the bot gets the group's notices. If it doesn't, give one of the bot's roles the Receive Notices and view past Notices ability in SL.

Notices sent by actions

A list of actions, like a form's When accepted or an event's When it starts, can send a group notice with Send a group notice. Its first line is the subject. It shows under Sent like any other notice, and counts once for each member against the list's daily limit.

Read notices as a member

Members who can't send notices see the ones that went to the SL groups they're in, or to them by IM.
