Add Civitas to your Discord server

With Civitas on your Discord server, the roles you link reach Discord, moderation bans and mutes reach it too, and your SL group chats can be passed to its channels. A Discord server belongs to one community at a time.

Add the app

1. Go to Discord in your community's navigation and press Add to a Discord server.
2. Discord asks you to pick a server you manage and shows what the app can do there. Approve it.
3. Discord sends you back to the Discord page, which now shows the server.

If the server is already connected to another Civitas community, remove it there first.

Check it can post

On the server's card, choose a channel in Send a test message to and press Send, then look in that channel in Discord. Each channel Civitas posts in is listed on the card, with when it last posted.

Give Civitas's role its permissions

The Setup check panel lists what Civitas uses on each server: Manage Roles for role sync and the linked SL resident role, Manage Webhooks for posting, Ban Members for moderation bans and Timeout Members for moderation mutes. The server's admins give Civitas's role these in Discord, in Server Settings, Roles.

Civitas can only give out roles below its own role. If a linked role is above it, the server's card says so: drag Civitas's role above it in Server Settings, Roles.

Mark linked residents

The Linked SL resident role panel gives one Discord role to everyone on the server who has linked their Discord account to an SL avatar, and takes it away if they unlink. Use it to open channels to verified residents.

1. Type a Role name, or keep "Linked SL resident".
2. Press Turn on. Civitas makes the role in Discord and gives it out.

To rename the role, change its name and leave the box. Turn off… deletes the role in Discord, and anything set up for it there, like channel permissions, goes with it.

Role changes made in Discord

You link Civitas roles to Discord roles on the Roles page (see Link roles). Sent to Discord lists the role changes Civitas has made there.

When someone gives or takes away a linked role by hand in Discord, it shows under Changes in Discord. Press Make official to take the change into Civitas, or Undo to have Civitas put Discord back. Deciding needs permission to manage members (members.manage). A linked role deleted in Discord is no longer linked, and its Civitas role and holders stay; press Reviewed once you've seen it. Decided changes move to Reviewed.

Remove a server

Press Remove… on the server's card and confirm. Civitas leaves the server and deletes its webhooks there. You can add it again later.
